Self-Control
Self-regulation is the umbrella. Self-control sits underneath it as a specific skill: the moment-to-moment ability to pause before acting. This page is the dedicated home for that narrower skill - impulse control, stop-and-think strategies, and the activities counselors use to teach kids how to slow down between trigger and response.
Top section
Self-control is the pause. It is the breath between feeling the urge and choosing what to do. Kids who have not built that skill yet land in our offices for blurting out, hitting first and asking later, struggling to wait their turn, or jumping ahead before they have thought it through.
This collection is the impulse-control corner of self-regulation. Everything here teaches one specific thing: how to stop, think, and choose. Printable and digital resources, all made by a school counselor.

Self-control vs. self-regulation
These two get used interchangeably, but it helps to keep them separate when you are picking resources.
Self-regulation is the bigger picture - managing emotions, calming the body, recovering from a hard moment, flexible thinking. Self-control is the narrower piece - that single decision point where a student chooses to pause instead of react.
If you are working on the bigger picture, the self-regulation collection is the better starting point. If the specific need is impulse control or pause-before-you-act work, this is where to look.
