This 6-week middle school responsible decision-making counseling group is designed to help students determine and practice healthy decision-making strategies. In addition, students will review the effects and consequences of their choices. This comprehensive curriculum includes everything you need to run a successful and engaging school counseling small group including self-assessments to make data tracking easy. The included weekly outlines are aligned with CASEL Standards and ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors.
Students will learn the skills they need to responsibly make decisions.
Middle School Responsible Decision Making Group Outline:
Week 1: Determine the size of a decision

Week 3: Discern between good and bad decisions
Week 4: Discern between good and better decisions
Week 5: Discuss short and long term effects of decisions
Week 6: Discuss an appropriate response to poor decisions

- Self-Assessments: Pre and post-group self-assessments to track student growth and make data collection easy!

Benefiting Students:
Each week students will develop skills to make responsible choices and discuss potential consequences of their actions.
At a minimum, being in the counseling group allows students to identify and share their feelings, develop important social skills through participation, and practice empathy while hearing others’ experiences.

Who is this Group Designed For?
This responsible decision making small group is designed for middle school students in grades 6-8 but it can be modified to work with students across different grade levels.
